The following 2024 recording is from Miguel and Silvia Solorio’s visit to my PSYC 144 Memory & Amnesia class. The class is an upper-division undergraduate course open to all majors. As people outside of my class (including the Solorios) have asked to view this lecture, I wanted to post the link to the podcast recording from that day. The recording is audiovisual.
Link to recording: Here. You can toggle between my presentation slides and the camera faced on the speaker.
A previous post of mine (The Exoneration of Miguel Solorio) describes his case, my role in it, and also provides links to coverage from news sources. The class recording also offers a brief overview of the memory evidence in his case. Importantly, Miguel was the first person to be exonerated using the 2021 scientific consensus paper titled, “Test a witness’s memory of a suspect only once.” There have since been four more exonerations using that consensus statement.
Thank you to the Solorios for making themselves available just a few months after Miguel’s exoneration. My students loved it, and still talk about how your visit shaped them. Also, thank you to the UC San Diego podcasting service who assisted in making this one lecture available to those outside of my Winter ’24 class.
